Re: Deciding on controller - can the FCB do these things?

klaus dibbelt <ewig-waehrt-am-laengsten@...>

what is gonna work for sure:
common and separate program changes.

what definitely wont work:
the ada mp1 doesnt understand cc-messages. it only reacts to programchange
messages.

i dont know the time machine and i dont know the looper you do not have
;-). success will depend on what kind of midi messages they expect to
perform the desired function.

hope that helps

Subject: [fcb1010] Deciding on controller - can the FCB do these things?

I have it in my head to get a Behringer FCB1010. It seems to be the
most versatile controller in my price range, versus the Digitech
Control 8 and Art X-15. My rack consists of an ADA MP-1, a Digitech
TSR-12, and a Digitech 7.6 Time Machine. The latter unit is not MIDI
controllable. I also plan to add either an Echo Pro or a Gibson EDP
or similar unit for more controlled looping later this year.

What I think I'd like to do is set it up where I can do the
following: do global preset program changes where both the TSR-12 and
MP-1 (and the looper unit eventually) change programs according to
whatever I put in the FCB; have separate buttons to individually
select programs on either unit; tap-tempo; simple loop controls for
whatever MIDI controlled looper I get; and two buttons for the swtich
controls on the FCB to control the TIme Machine (effect on/off and
repeat/hold). From the variable controllers, one would be a volume
for the MP-1 and the other a misc. parameter control for the TSR-12.

Okay, does this sound feasible? Is this too much for the FCB I'd like
to do live looping and the like and that's what I'm gearing the
system towards. Perhaps if you have a moment you could outline the
way you have your controller set up in the event it might be a better
solution or present ideas to consider.

Re: Newbie with twist

klaus dibbelt <ewig-waehrt-am-laengsten@...>

hi,
last question first:

Is there a way to assign different MIDI notes to different
footswitches within a given program?
what is often misunderstood: every patch of the fcb is a "program" of its
own. this may consist of programchange- and/or cc- and/or
midi-note-messages. when editing a patch you can setup which of the
functions are to be part of this program.

Here is the need for the 1010. I assign different MIDI notes to the
switches and free my hands to play their part while my feet have the time
for precision.

So far, I have learned to assign a single MIDI note to a program
change.
?? you may assign a midi note message to a patch, without having it send a
program change!

The most complicated of these sequences has 6 trigger points in it,
requiring six programs of the first bank.
yes, this is possible.

I want to eventually be able to effect tempo and overall volume of the
K2000 from the 1010, if possible, and to control as must of the function of
the sequencer section of the synth as I can access.
should be possible, if the k2000 allows this.
but youve already spent six out of ten patches of the bank for note-on
patches...

hope that helps

Re: How do you REALLY get it to work?

klaus dibbelt <ewig-waehrt-am-laengsten@...>

Currently teh sysex file I have uses 5 banks, and 6 switches in each to
change
presets (ie. bank 00, switch 1 = J preset 0-1, bank 00, switch 2 = 0-2,
bank
00, switch 3 = 0-3, bank 00, switch 6 = 1-1, bank 00, switch 7 = 1-2, bank
01,
switch 3 = 2-3, etc.) This just seems so inefficeint to waste 6 switches
just
to change presets.
if you spare them, what do you want to use them for (i guess, program change
is what 90% of us use almost exclusively of the fcb-functions)?
if you dont want no preset-changing, you can assign ccs or midi-notes to
as many patches of each bank as you want to.

Re: How do you REALLY get it to work?

klaus dibbelt <ewig-waehrt-am-laengsten@...>

you have ten fcb-banks with ten patches each, makes 100. you can use all of
them to send prgchange messages, but as well leave some to switch singe
effects.
think of each bank as an individual unit: you program the ten patches of the
first bank with what you want, change to another bank (up/down) and feed
the ten patches with other instructions and so on.

the fcb does not know about the bank-structure of the j-station and vice
versa.

I know I must sound dense, but I don't get how with 10 switches (but by
the
sounds of it people just use 5 of them for program changes), you can send
30
different program change messages? Is it combinations of switches taht you
use?

jeff,
maybe you have read too many posts too carefully! some of them were related
to particular items, that are not at all relevant for the use with a v-amp.
you have 100 patches in the fcb, all of them with the same possible
functions. none. of them is predetermined to be a program switch or a cc
(control change=effect control).
because they didnt want to put one hundred switches on it, they just took
ten (plus two for up and down). by using the up/down switches you get to
another bank (= change the physical switches 1-10 to be 11-20, 99-100...).
all this talk about using five switches of one bank for progchange, the
other five for ccs, were suggestions for a sensible use. but sure this
depends on your needs.

Now, if I put Vamp A2 preset into FCB pedal#2, those same effects I
had for pedal #1 will not work with pedal #2, correct? I have to
program each pedal 6-10 again for the pedal #2? And so on to pedal
#5?
this is a question that, admittedly, has not yet been clearly discussed!
yes they will work! if you step on the footswitch that you have programmed
to switch on the reverb in v-amp A1 (which, say, is "large hall", it will
now switch on the reverb that is chosen in A2 (which could be "tiny room")
BUT:
take a look at the v-amp manual, chapter 8.1.:
the parameters are not separately defined for every single effect. apart
from volume, wah, gain, drive, eq and some others specials (that are present
in all presets), you find:
-pre-effect (comp, auto-wah)
-post-effect (ie all modulation effects)
-delay (delay, echo, ping-pong)
-reverb (8 kinds of reverb).

so if footswitch 6 was to put on the chorus in A1, it might in preset A2
put on the tremolo (or whatever post-effect had been chosen when this preset
was created).

once you have programmed a footswitch as cc (eg delay on/off), it will (in
this particular bank) be exactly this delay-cc, whatever preset is selected
in the v-amp (even if you switch your v-amp manually to D25, this switch
will change in D25 what you have programmed it to change, i.e. put on/off
the delay of D25).

let me know, if i wasnt clear again!

Here's a question. Is it possible to set one of the expression pedals to
transmit cc7 on all 16 MIDI channels >simultaneously?

no way! one channel for each function.

and thanks for the infos!

availability in the UK

Does anyone know anywhere (in the UK) that actually has these in
stock please.

I've tried all over the place in London (Denmark St, Brixton Music
Ac., Digital Village, Pro Music Tech) and the South East (Andertons,
Guitar + Amp, Eddie Moore's). Even SoundsLive don't have them
(according to their email after I placed an order for one).

Any ideas please?

I believe Johnny Roadhouse do in Manchester - two folks on the list have
bought one from there in the past week. 0161 273 3069.

Mike,

Fantastic. Thanks for that. I can confirm that they currently have
some in stock. 99GBP + 5GBP delivery.

Thanks for the info.

Robert

PS: Please excuse the silly borisolgauk name thing, could not get
anything sensible so opted for something silly.

EPROM Upgrades

vuduchild_82790 <dam718@...>

Hello,

I am looking into purchasing an EPROM programmer, and I am wondering
what kind of demand there is for the v2.2 upgrade chips.

I would like to be able to make chips available to all interested.

I don't have a web page, or I would have put this in the EPROM
Programming Service bookmarks section. I am just trying to get a feel
for the amount of people that would be interested at this point.

Please drop me an e-mail at dam718@... if interested.

thanks!

Dave

Re: EPROM Upgrades

BC <bcproject@...>

I think most of the folks interested in the 2.2 chips are V-AMP users and
lord knows they are well aware of the people selling those chips. I can't
see there being that much of a market for them. But that's me...

Makin' an EPROM Run

bradleyfalch <bradleyfalch@...>

I'm about to go to my local back-room electronics supplier to get a
new V2.2 FCB101 EPROM burned. Anybody else want one? Before you
accuse me of SPAMming you, give me a chance to explain...

As a favor to my fellow V-Amp'ers and FCB1010'ers, I'm offering
to "pick up one while I'm out." I'll only charge you what it costs
me to get one to you. This is not a business, just a favor. As
such, please don't expect me to have it to you in three days. (Think
of me as the buddy who went on a beer run that might get a little
sidetracked.) So, if you want an upgrade fast, I suggest you go to
someone trying to make a business out of it. If you can wait a
little, and you want to avoid the bickering upgrade suppliers
(Children behave!!), I'd be glad to get one for you.

The EPROM and burning is less than $5 US. I would prefer that you
send me a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope), so I don't even
have to bother with shipping materials & costs. (I would think a
bubble-wrapped envelope would be fine.)

If you are interested, drop me a line at bradleyfalch@....

Regards,

Brad

Great :)

So far I have 3 orders. I am going to wait a few days to see if I can get 10, that way I can keep the end cost around $10 shipped per EPROM.

I'll keep ya posted, it may even be a little cheaper than that.
