2. I have a NightBASS by art and I can not seem to get either
Volume

of the FCB1010.
Do you have a MIDI implementation chart for it?
Yes, in the Nightbass manual there is one that looks like a mirror to
the FCB1010 so I would imagine they should talk to each other.
I have posted the Nightbass manual at
http://www.wrathofgod.com/nightbass/

3. How can I tell which software version I am running ?
Open the lid and look at the sticker on the EPROM - there are 14
screws,
as detailed in the upgrade manual, to remove on the base to get in.

Mike Whitaker
OK. That doesn't seem to user friendly. I am OK to open a lid to
anything, I deal with unix systems for a living, but this isn't the
best solution for the average musician.

Also, were you requesting that I send a SYSex dump of the NightBass?
I am not sure I could do this but will do some reading to see if I
can.

Thanks for the responces.

they send 'bank up'/'bank down' messages or am I just changed banks on the

I know, I know - I'll have to break out the MIDI message monitor on my PC

Mike,

As was stated earlier, you can't program unique effects to turn
on/off, but you can turn the drive, reverb, and modulation effects on
and off (modulation as a whole, not each individual). The following
controls can be used: drive=26 (0 or 1), fx=21 (0 or 1), and
reverb=22 (0 or 127).

Of course, it also sounds like you can't even get the switching to
work. Did you get the instructions on how to use the upgrade? It
details how to do the switching functions. Basically, when you edit
the patch for switch #6, turn on the sending of CNT1 and CNT2, and
have them both send the same control number (say, 26 for drive).
Then, have CNT1 send 0 and CNT2 send 1. Once saved, this should send
values 0 and 1 alternatively on for control value 26 (drive). Once
you hit the original patch again, it's original configuration is
resumed. (That is, if you were playing patch bank 1, and it has
drive on by default, if you hit button 6 and then 1 again, your drive
is back on.)

Also, make sure that the MIDI channels assigned to CNT1 and CNT2 are
identical. I believe this is a GLOBAL setup option, and not patch
specific.

I've done this kind of thing with my newly upgraded FCB. I love it!
Now, if they would just make a sysex editor for it, I could die a
happy man!

I believe that the FCB just uses this internally and does not send
values. However, if you are in the other switching mode where you
select patches by hitting two pedals (like 1 followed by 0 = 10), it
will send that patch change message after hitting the 0.

If you are still having problems with the switching capability, make
sure the MIDI signal sent for CNT1 and CNT2 are on the same channel,
and that the Control changes are the same number and one sends "on"
and the other "off".

Oh, and pray Behringer makes an editor so we can just send you a
sysex dump for a couple of presets!

Foot pedal "dead zone" problem

broadsidetom

Hi fcb1010 users,

I just got an FCB1010 and I'm really looking forward to using it. I
like that it seems roadworthy and uses no wall wart, and the MIDI
flexibility is great (I've been using 3 different components to do
less).

But, my B (right) expression pedal is out of whack. There's a "dead
zone" at the bottom of its throw where no change in value registers.
Rather than a calibration problem, it seems like the component which
reads the pedal movement just can't tell when the pedal moves in that
range. Details follow - if anyone can help me diagnose this, I'd
appreciate it! Thanks in advance...

OK, here are the details (apologies for the length):

During calibration, the lowest hex value the pedal will register is
09, and it gets to that value noticeably before it gets to the bottom
(heel down) end of its travel. I can calibrate it in the sense that it
will send a 0 at that "09" point and a 127 at the top, but no changes
are sent below that "09" point. Among other things, this has the
effect that if I go heel down quickly, the lowest control values
aren't always sent (not good if I was counting on them to turn off an
effect).

For comparison, the A (left) pedal shows hex values from 0E to FA -
but if you move it at all at the ends of its travel, the change
immediately registers. (The A pedal worked fine out of the box.)

I have not tried opening the unit up yet, because that might make it
difficult for me to return it if this problem can't be overcome.
However, I'm sure some of you have opened yours, if only for ROM
upgrades. Has anyone examined the pedal mechanism? (Judging by the
red light under the pedals, it's a photocell with an LED for the light
source...?) Does it seem likely that this is a simple matter of
something being out of alignment, that could be fixed with a bit of
physical tweaking? Or will I probably have to exchange mine for
another unit?

Any advice, opinions or even moderately informed speculation welcome.
:-) On or off list - my thanks in advance. Thanks also to our
gracious moderator for posting the POST/calibration procedure, which
is the only thing that's gotten me this far in diagnosing the problem.

In case anyone's keeping score, my date code is 0701, serial number

Thanks for all your help. I found something from this that will work
as a temporary solution. Apparently I need to look at an EPROM
upgrade as well..but at least I have a functional enough board to
build around.

A big POD How To guide would be great! I'm sure a lot of people will
using these boards for PODs because of their price point if they're
not already.

2. I have a NightBASS by art and I can not seem to get either
Volume
or
FX to be manipulated by the continuous data pedals on the right
side
of
the FCB1010.
So I found a solution to my problem. I don't like it but here goes.

The Two Expression pedals on the FCB1010 are Controller # 7 and # 14
from left to right. The ART Nightbass is set up by default to look at
Controller #4 and #11 on each patch that has real-time MIDI control
(The ART x-15's pedals are #4 and #11 by default).

So it seems my options are to either:

1. Modify each patch on the Night bass to accept input from
Controller #7 and #14

or

2. Modify each patch on the FCB1010 so that the expression
controllers are #4 and #11

I don't really like either solution at the moment and I looked in the
global set up and there doesn't seem to be a way to permanately
modify the expression pedals to be Controller #4 and #11.

v2.2 for V-AMP only??

Is V2.2 useful for V-AMP only?? I am going to buy a FCB1010 for my
Boss GX-700 and I afraid the shops are still selling old firmware
version.

Robert Alan Bowman <bowmanr@...>

Glad it helped a bit. I see though, that you have the same problem as me? The old not being able to toggle effects from one pedal? Yes, I need to upgrade my EPROM too. Rats.

I used my Flextone with the FCB1010 yesterday all day for the first time with my band doing some recording -- held up admirably, not a single problem which is good. I'll check the accuracy of that stuff out and put some bits together for review soon hopefully.

No, the v2.2 upgrade is useful for just about anything you can connect it to...

I use a Fender Cyber Twin for example, and it is a great addition to the features of the FCB1010...

If you like, you can e-mail me at dam718@...

If you end up getting a controller with the older Firmware, I can burn a v2.2 chip for a very reasonable price

Dear BEHRINGER users,

At first we would like to thank you for showing interest in BEHRINGER
products.
The expression pedals are calibrated and completely checked before
they leave our Company. However it is possible that during
transportation or influence of temperature the calibrated values have
become out off reach. Normally after using the pedal for several
times, it should be gone.
There is a way to re-calibrate your expression pedals.

Calibration – Self test FCB1010 :

1. Keep pedal 1 and 3 pressed while switching on the unit. The unit is
in self test-mode now. LED's are checking.
2. Wait until all pedal LED's are burning. Push all pedals now
(one at a time, including up and down) until all LED's are off.
3. Wait until relay test is finished. F1 will show up in the display.
When you have connected the midi out to the midi in connector the
display will show A1, this indicates the midi ports work correctly.
4. Press the down-button once.
5. Adjust the left expression pedal (A) to the lowest value. Once
adjusted press UP.
6. Adjust the left expression pedal (A) to the highest value. Once
adjusted press UP.
7. Adjust the right expression pedal (B) to the lowest value. Once
adjusted press UP.
8. Adjust the right expression pedal (B) to the highest value. Once
adjusted press UP.

Now the pedals are calibrated and there should be a value of 0-127 to
the midi-output.

We hope that we have been able to help you with this information.

Channel Assignments

BC <bcproject@...>

If I understand this correctly - the MIDI Channel assignments for each
footswitch are set globally. So, I can't have a patch were EXPA sends
controller 27 on channel 1 - and another patch where EXPA sends controller
52 on channel 2 - because EXPA has to be set to Channel 1 (or 2) all the
time.

Darn.

Behringer WAH - Not what you think...

BC <bcproject@...>

I've been trying to find a decent programmable WAH..and guess what? Behringer makes one! It's not in the V-Amp though. It's in the DSp1224P-Modulizer!

I patched my FCB1010 into the DSP1224P, used algorithm 5 (Auto Highpass) set the LFO for 0 (user control) set the FCB1010 accordingly and PRESTO - darn nice WAH sounds! I borrowed a Dunlop Crybaby 535Q to make sure I wasn't just suffering from wishful thinking (that DSP1224P Wah was decent to darn good).

So I guess my point is: if you want an inexpensive programmable wah (and more), and you already have a MIDI foot controller - check out the DSP1224P!

And if Behringer monitors this list: Please take the code from the DSP1224P (effect 5) and use it to replace the miserable WAH code in the V-Amp.

Just as a guess; try and find the date code on the side of the box (there certainly is on the box for my unit sold in the UK).

You would not want one before Feb this year I think to have, at least, a chance of getting one with the v2.2 eprom.

Sorry this is vague.

I would say: Don't worry about it. Just buy a FCB1010 - and order a 2.2

Installing the chip is no big deal.

FCB1010/Sequencer

Paul Potash <ppotash@...>

Hello,
I am trying out an FCB1010 to see if it will start and stop my sequencer which is a Roland MC50.  I've sent start/stop program changes 21/22 which didn't work and then I tried start/stop Control Change 85/87 all of which I've understood to be the correct start/stop commands, without success.  For one thing, I'd like to know if these are the correct commands...  secondly, I'd like to know if it's even possible to stop/start the MC50 using the FCB1010?  I've called Behringer Tech Support but there are too few of them with much too much to do.  The poor guys knew very little about the unit.  Looking forward to a response...   Paul
