Is anyone else disappointed with the lack of a momentary switch control?

delltamale <sserendipity@...>

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else was disappointed with the lack
of momentary - ie pedal press and pedal release CCs in this otherwise
full featured controller?

It's a real pity, since this would make this unit pretty much
unbeatable, but many functions aren't available as it is. Is there
anything else out there, (in production - there are a number of
pedals that are no longer made that can do this), that does this?

Thanks,

Jonathan El-Bizri

Actually, the new firmware adds a feature that will swap CC values with each subsequent footswitch press... To facilitate effects ON/OFF or something of that nature...

There is still no momentary footswitch, however from what I have found, Behringer is very receptive to customer requests... This may be something you leave in their comment box.

Ahh, I misunderstood.  I use the Expression Pedals for momentary type actions.  They will turn an effect on and off just like any footswitch, but because you can rock them both ways, you can use them for a momentary boost, or a momentary delay, or whatever momentary action you want to take.

Damn - Just got FCB1010 - only v1.1 firmware fitted!!!

barryspearce <bsp.egroups@...>

Dear oh dear....

Ive just got my FCB1010 - had to wait since END FEB for it to be
shipped from behringer DE to UK distributor...even got a nice v2.2.0e
manual add-on telling me about the 'copy preset' function - does it
work? Like heck.

Hmm...so I opened up the box...and now I find it has v1.1 firmware
issued on 18 Jan 2002!!!!

Now Im trying to get a ROM upgrade....behringer refused to ship to me
direct...EEk. Thats a pain in the bum cause I just got a DSP8024 as
well and the damn firware on that is out of date too! (v1.2 supplied,
v1.3a current! ARGH)...

Has anyone got the v2.2.0e firware currently?
Has anyone obtained it from their dealer?
& no I dont have an EPROM blower to hand... :)

Regards,
Barry

Check the Fender Forum for a thread related to the Cyber Twin and the

Actually, I was mistaken about the feature. I'm talking about V2.2, but
it's not quite the same as a momentary. The new firmware lets you send
a different control for each press of the switch.

I got mine from Sam Lloyd: http://home.usit.net/~slloyd/v_eprom.html

Only $10, I got it about 4 days after sending him the money via paypal.

btw - I found him because this page: http://www.altrion.org/fcb1010/ had a
link to a Yahoo group 'fcb1010' and he has an entry in the 'Bookmarks'
section there for that group.

Barry,

I believe, from your address that you're in the UK??

If so, Spectra Displays are doing Behringer EPROMS (I've only seen it documented specifically for the V-Amp though -- see last months Sound on Sound mag). Their number is 01954 261402, or www.spectra-displays.co.uk.

Hope that helps

Re: roland jv-1010 & gi-10 + behringer v-amp & fcb-1010

jazzyfunky64 <stefhahn@yahoo.com>

Hi --

why don't you just use two different midi channels for controlling
the performance change of the roland and the V-Amp and merge it with
the FCB controls/changes? An easy thing to program the FCB to suit
that, and the roland and the v-amp can both surely be programmed that
they receive their data on "their" channel then.

I use the following setup: out of midi master into FCB-1010 (set to
midi merge), from there to two different midi devices, (one of it is
a fairly complex synth) -- this allows me to add the midi program
changes specific for each device (#1 on channel 1 and #2 on channel
2).

One thing I don't know about could be e.g. whether the roland needs
a "bank change" control message or whether it accepts straight progam
changes, once set to user performances (if you JUST use user
performances), but this could be easily solved by sending the
respective control message(s). Just check the midi implementation
charts of both devices (typically a 1-2 page table in the appendix of
your manuals).

ciao,
Stefan

hi all!

does anyone here have experience with changing performances (&
part/midi channel) on a roland jv-1010 via the fcb-1010? or any
idea
how i could solve this midi puzzle?

my setup:

i control the gi-10 (midi to guitar interface) via a gk-2a pickup
on
my guitar, the midi signal from the gi is routed thru the fcb, then
into the jv-1010 (64-voice synth) and then for effect patch
changing
into the v-amp (only the guitar audio goes thru the v-amp).

what i basically want to do:

the jv-1010 provides user performances (where you can assemble 16
sounds to a performance, as far as i understand every of the 16
sounds is assigned to a different midi channel) - you can also set
the volume for each of the 16 sounds - there are 32 user
performances
available. (there is also a patch mode, but you cannot change the
patch volume)

so if i want to play guitar only, the fcb should swith the jv-1010
to
a "silent" performance and switch the v-amp to a guitar sound. when
i
want to play synth only the fcb should switch to a synth sound
stored
in a performance and should switch the v-amp silent.

-

controlling the v-amp (& switching it silent) is not really a big
problem, but how to control the jv-1010? or maybe it is possible to
control the midi send channel of the gi-10 so i can select the
patches of a performance from there?

any help is appreciated, i'm in midi hell ;-)

- sorry if this goes off topic, but i'm sure there is no separate
mailing list with people that run a setup like i do.

peace,

sid

Cheers. Ive just ordered 2xEPROMs from Sam Lloyd in the US. After
behringer said they wouldnt send them out I tried the distributors -
who seemed very reluctant, havent phoned me back and didnt really
seem to understand what the words 'software' (its hardware unit isnt
it?) or 'EPROM' (erm..yeah..ok...ill check) *actually* meant.

So sod them. Cheers behringer. I have 5 units - Ive been a loyal
customer...and when 2 of them need s/w upgrades I get told to sod
off. Cheers. Real customer service & a half. Even Roland out
performed them - which is saying something.

Anyway Sam Lloyd did the proms for me at 10USD each + 5USD shipping
to the UK. So I get the lot for about £17.50. To be honest Im miffed
at Behringer because these updates *should* have been free - given
that I even got supplied with an addendum to the FCB1010 manual
telling me about the s/w enhancements (copy) for a PROM I dont have
even...hmmm....not chuffed. Very chuffed if Sam comes thru though -
Ive heard good things about him...AFAIAC as long as i get the s/w
upgrades im happy - im more interested in getting my rack finished
once and for all.

Cheers anyway,
Barry

FCB 1010 Expression Pedal Question

scrathbun <ny10547@...>

Hello all. I am new to this site. Glad it's here. Learning a lot
about the FCB. Was wondering if it is possible to assign two
parameters to an expression pedal. I was thinking of something like
the boss gt series does. You can assign one parameter to increase
(like a delay) and one parameter to decrease(like a reverb) as you
roll the pedal forward.

Um. No. It will output a single MIDI CC controller. However on the
Boss GT-x you can still use as many control assigns as you want with
the source as the same MIDI CC number - so if the FCB1010 is
controlling a GT-3/5/6 (in my case a GT-3) then yes you can. The
change is simple instead of source=EXP PEDAL you make it Source =
MIDI CC#<whatever>. Easy!

Hope this helps,
Barry

Thanks, it's definitely an interesting work around, but not one that
would work very well in my specific case. I'm going to send this
message to Behringer too.

Using a footpedal as a momentary switch would be awkward for
seriously time critical control, such as controlling the start and
stop of a looping device - which is what I want to do. It also won't
work for stuff where you want on/off functionality, rather than a
fade in.

Other things I was hoping to do with the unit:

- momentary pitch shifting, single notes during a phrase
- feeding only parts of a phrase into a looper/overdub
- stutter effects

While a pedal would be able to get me halfway there, at least with
the last two, it wouldn't sound nearly as good as a momentary.
Besides, there are only two footpedals :/

Besides, it would mean sacrificing a footpedal for the function, and
all my pedals are already dedicated to another midi channel/unit.
(Isn't it a complete pity that you have to dedicate each button pedal
to a channel?)

WTB: FCB eprom upgrade

Lumpy <lumpy@...>

I'm sorry to bring this to the list.
I know there has been so much poo
flung between two of the suppliers.

Who has FCB 1010 eproms for sale
in the USA (I'm in Phoenix)?

The list of suppliers on the FCB
list and on the V-amp list is filled
with dead email links, no email links
(bet that guy doesn't do much business)
and some people who have simply not
responded to my emails.

Adults only. Tell me the bottom line
on a tested FCB eprom shipped to
Phoenix.

I'll monitor the list, but in all fairness,
I think the honorable thing to do is to
reply to me privately via email, not post
it on the list (as the moderators have asked).

Hi,

Thanks Barry. I'll just put it on a wish list and send it to
Behringer for the next update.

While you are there - could you please ask them to stop doing MIDI
channel assignments at global level - and do them at patch level?

This way I could use the second expression pedal to output to
different units on different patches - especially useful as I am
controlling 5 units with this...

Cheers,
Barry
