Re: Unprogrammed Control Change

It's the Behringer tap-tempo functionality, described in chapter 2.6 of their manual. If you have UnO firmware you can disable it in the global settings. With Behringer firmware you can't disable it, but you can set the CC midi channel to an unused channel so that Ableton ignores it (unless you need ControlChange messages for something else)

Unprogrammed Control Change

Len Brown

Good morning FCB Group,

Below is a MIDIOX screen shot of the Midi input from the FCB.  I have only a note number turned on in the FCB verified using the editor.  Button 1 is set to send Midi Note 1 and is mapped to launch a clip in Ableton Live.  Hit the button and it launches the clip.  Hit the button again and I get the note and a control change....I do not have any control changes turned on.  It seems a control change is being sent every other button press giving me different behavior in Ableton depending on whether the control change is being sent or not.  Any ideas on how I can stop the control change message every other button press?

Thanks,

Len

I don't suppose there's any chance that you might take the MIDI Monitor part of ControlCenter and release it as a general purpose standalone utility?
I have created a completely new ControlCenter for the future UnO2 firmware and TinyBox hardware. It has a MIDI monitor embedded, which is also available as a separate free download for Windows and Mac :

Hot-Rodded FCB Stuff For Sale #for_sale

Hi All,

For any who may be interested, I'm selling off some gear.  This includes the pedalboard I constructed for a previous project, which includes:
  • Gordius Little Giant Module in good condition
  • FCB1010 with Gordius firmware and Phantom Power modifications (FCB Uno or original FCB Firmware also available included or separate, if I can find them in my closet)
  • Three Boss FS-5U external momentary foot switches
  • 2-channel Effects Looper for bringing two guitar stomps in/out of the signal chain (Controlled by Contact Closure on the Gordius)

Or, if anyone out there feels inspired to adopt the whole pedalboard as a project, let me know. (DIY enthusiasts in British Columbia only: There's no instruction manual and I can't imagine how I would ship it.)

It is partially deconstructed, but I believe all the parts are still available.  In addition to the above, it includes  1xMIDI IN, 4xMIDI out, jacks for off-board foot switches, two locking wall wart power strips to power all the included electronics, and a connection port for iPhone hardwired MIDI.  I've also got all the expensive right-angle connectors required to keep this thing stageworthy and as 'sleek' as possible.  The whole thing is 5 feet wide and weighs a lot, but it actually folds up for transport, if you can believe it!

If it floats your boat, I also hacked a cheap Playstation 3 'Rock Band' keytar as a phantom powered MIDI controller, and the board has a custom port for this.  Would consider selling.

I'm keeping the stomp boxes on the right-hand side of the photo.

Fun story, I once received a 'slow clap applause' from record producer "Gggarth" Richardson when he saw this thing.

Let me know if any of you are interested in either the board or the parts.

Best,

Chris

I’m a new member as I just bought a brand new FCB1010 on March 30, 2020. I’m setting up a woodwind controller with software and needed the expression pedal function. As I’m learning the software I’ve learned a work around that doesn’t require the 1010, therefore I probably won’t keep it.

If anyone needs a new FCB 1010 I’m in Nashville, TN. It has the factory eprom V2.5. $110.00 will do it. Photos available. If I sell I’ll miss you guys!

Thanks,

John

Thanks for your trouble EJ.  David.

Thanks Thomas - I assume that means it's not possible to change the switch outputs from the FCB to non-latching?

I checked the manual and didn't see that capability.

I use AmpliTube 4 myself and have to change to latch settings within amplitube midi settings for each stomp while learning the midi signals.
Don’t know if this may help.

As you stated, Direct Select is a PITA, which is why most people don't use it.
Considering the programming involved, your best bet is to use your Volume pedal.

Thank you EJ for your patience and reply.  It's helped me dig a little deeper into the capabilites of the FCB - so I'll have another shot at RTM ( probably what you wish I'd done before.....).

Firstly - I've missed an obvious way to mute the sound - the volume pedal!  I play live - 10 patches is plenty and a single stomp per patch is easier.   A flip of the volume pedal is a simple way to tune-up silently mid-set as my amp is downstream of the tuner.

I tried Direct Select Mode and it worked as you described, but two stomps per patch is one too many given I stay within one bank.  Also, the tuner mute did work but it seems the mute input on the tuner needs a non-latching switch so it took a couple of extra stomps to switch it off and back on again.  I assume the FCB switches are latching?  Can this be changed in software?

Thanks again. David

I am a software developer and empathize with the costs of supporting Mac software, using XCode, and upgrading $2,000 worth of hardware to compile for the latest OS.

I recouped the cost within the first 20 minutes of using ControlCenter and then again many times over.

ControlCenter is saving the planet.  So many FCB1010's would have ended up in trash without this excellent software that makes the device usable while leaving time to actually enjoy using it and making music.

I will gladly pay the nominal price again for all of the time saved and aggravation avoided.

I wasn't aware it wasn't an original chip and I'm getting the original as soon as the new firmware will be out... I still don't know where to buy the original by the way...

Annoying, I'm sure, but I don't know how many times someone comes on here saying "My chip doesn't work!" and I have to ask if they bought it from you or some eBay pirate!

I use a PC, and have the setup I want for now.  Still, your complaints about Apple ring true - I've been fighting the urge to go Core Audio / Core MIDI for some time now, just because I know the trouble the rest will cause.  Their draconian repair policies and overpriced hardware may have been tolerated when they had a superior product.  As of late, the aforementioned Core system is the only thing left worth considering, and it ain't enough.

So, in support, I'll be sending you the upgrade fee in a few hours.
