I use a PC, and have the setup I want for now.  Still, your complaints about Apple ring true - I've been fighting the urge to go Core Audio / Core MIDI for some time now, just because I know the trouble the rest will cause.  Their draconian repair policies and overpriced hardware may have been tolerated when they had a superior product.  As of late, the aforementioned Core system is the only thing left worth considering, and it ain't enough.

So, in support, I'll be sending you the upgrade fee in a few hours.

I do not want to be a part of illegal purchases.  I will give the seller a Chance to do the right thing. If he fails to do so I will get ebay to intervene.
I will most definitely purchase the new 2.0 chips from you when they will be available.  Which is your web page?
Thanks👍

No Roger, please use the chips. I really have no problem with people trying to find the best buy online - I just have a (small) problem with those sellers who make it feel like software is something that has to come for free. You know, I'm getting emails from people demanding a discount and asking if I'm not ashamed to ask three times the price of those ebay sellers... No I'm not. But enough whining for today, enjoy your gear and have fun, music will get us through these depressing corona times !

Hi scandemor,
thanks for your positive reaction, I agree that positive critics may help us all, I'm definitely learning from it myself. Also I'm aware that I'm not making myself popular with these money related topics, especially in this very environment with so many forum users spending their free time assisting other people. Not to forget the forum admins who patiently continue to manage subscription approvals in order keep this group spam free.

With regards to the new firmware I will publish more info when I'm ready to put it all on paper, but in essence it will be a stripped down firmware version of the "TinyBox" hardware which has been on my drawing board for many years now. See the TinyBox manual here.
I initially thought that kind of functionality would definitely require extended hardware, but the last few weeks I tried and succeeded in squeezing much of the MIDI functionality in an FCB1010 firmware PROM. Of course the major restriction will be the tiny setup storage in the FCB1010 (a 2KB EEPROM, as opposed to the 256KB EEPROM of the TinyBox). Although the TinyBox was very close to release a few months ago, I decided to first do this shrink-down exercise in order to avoid people buying the extra hardware if in the end they could live with a less expensive firmware update.

Hello Xavier,

Thank you for your reply and considerations.

About Catalina upgrade and new full license purchase, my opinion is  that if one customer still has 1 or 2 valid installation left, should be considered. In case having used the 3 installations, then a new full license should then be purchased; and this rule should apply the same for PC and Mac users regardless the computer brand.

I understand you had to purchase a new Mac, but all us know that all computers have a certain valid lifetime before going obsoletes. For this reason cannot say “ ok lets charge users with it”, or else will you charge again Win users when you update your PC? This  would apply when you buy a new Mac, PC, car, house….

I absolutely respect your decisión. In any case, as a one-time-reply in defense of my opinion, believe positive critics may help us all.

Glad to be  “be warned” you are working on a new firmware. Indeed good news. Though there was no margin for improvement on the FCB. Probably Behringer should support you, after all they are selling lots more FCB thanks to your app/fmwre. They do get the benefit of it. And then purchase the Mac….But this is a different discussion.

Wish to thank you a lot for your work, support and effort. Your FCBUno app is by far, the best in the market IMHO.
Can you shine some light over the new features on new firmware?

Best regards

I stopped using it to get a real Fender Twin. But soon I moved to a smaller home and the Twin was overkill. I’m going to use more plugins today than real stuff, the SY-1000 is so complete I can get almost all real and weird tones from it.

Cheers

I ordered a Uno4Kemper from you many years ago, when I had a Kemper and an FCB1010, but never installed. I put the FCB1010 to rest in my garage and almost forgot it, until I recently resurfaced it. SInce I’m going to buy a Boss SY-1000 soon, I’ll gladly pay for a new version, including the compatibility with Catalina.

Cheers,

- Matteo

I don't recall an order of 2 UnO chips from Italy lately, so the good thing is that you hopefully didn't pay too much for the illegal copies.
It's sad but most of my energy the last few days is going into something as stupid as adding copy protection to the firmware I write.

In all honesty, when it's about getting novices on the right track all thanks should really go to EJ, chris_w63 and several other group members who are very active on this forum and very responsive to all kinds of questions. I have been very absent here, except maybe for the last few weeks - being a corona crisis victim as so many others, temporarily out of a job. Which actually has some advantages too. Like suddenly having so much free time that I decided to create brand new firmware for the FCB1010 - with a brand new editor. Much more flexible than the current UnO firmware. Not ready for release just yet, but I'm mentioning it already because I heard the OP complaint : "I would like to have been warned" ...

I second EJ’s assement. A dozen more thumbs up. Seems to me you do a lot of “headbanging” to get us novices on the right track.

I greatly appreciate the sharing of your knowledge and the effort the entire group puts into this project. IMHO you should be charging more $. Good luck and God bless.

There have been free upgrades for everyone who did purchase a license a few months before the 64-bit rewrite.
I fully understand the frustration, I can live with all the shit I have received in my mailbox related to the 20 € I asked for the update. It's just a bit weird to me to see that literally not a single one of the complainers even considered the fact that it was actually the Apple business model which forced me to do the rewrite (indeed - Win users can still use the old version with no problem... ). It was the same Apple business model which even forced me to buy new overpriced Mac hardware, because Apple doesn't allow upgrading to the latest OS on old hardware. That's the reason why I have been so greedy to ask for 20€ for this upgrade, hoping that it will refund part of the cost for buying a new Mac computer (which I don't use for anything else but compiling the Mac version of the software - as Apple doesn't allow to compile Mac software on non-Apple hardware...). Sorry for that! Again, I understand the frustration and I can live with the criticism, and I definitely won't start another religious OS discussion. Just a one-time reply in defense of my decision.
Regards,
Xavier

Hello, well my surprise was today, after upgrading to Mac new OS Catalina, 100% 64bit OS....
All working fine.....except......FCBUNO app. Not supported. Need to get new version ok, but......my licence not working anymore, and nothing to do.
Only option is to purchase a bran new licence at full price.
I think is the only app not considering an upgrade for loyal users. Ok I agree may be a very low price, and all the work and time invested, but I also see Win users still using 1.7 with no problem.
Imho, I would like to have been warned, or had option to upgrade at a upgrade price, or some solution more friendly. Or a 50% discount time period,..or well,  something at least for loyal users, musicians after all.

kind regards

Per Ossandust, RTM.
Also, if you're using the Ed Dixon Editor, it doesn't work properly with UNO v1.0.2 and up.
Spend the $20 for the UNO_ControlCenter Editor. It's worth every penny.

I don't know where that "1+10+power" instruction comes from, but it's incorrect.
The UnO manual can be downloaded here: https://www.fcb1010.eu/downloads/FCB_UnO_v1_0_4_UserGuide.pdf
