There were a few typo’s in that text, I was using voice to text, it is not so accurate.  But basically Analog Devices has a line of DSP chips called the Sharc series that have been around for over a decade so it is a mature technology.  Currently Analog Devices offers several different versions of the Sharc processor the flagship processor being the Tiger Shark.  Both the Helix, and the AX8 use this processor. The newer AXE FX III is using the Texas Instruments 66AK2G12 Multi Core DSP.

The Helix has two TS processors dedicated to modeling, and the AX8 Has 1.  The Headrush on the other hand is being a bit secretive. They claim that there processor is purpose built, which likely means they had AD or TI build a modified version of their existing DSP line for them, however the HeadRush does limit the number of blocks that can be used at any given point in time which would suggest that  it is not as robust as the native AD TS or the TI Multi Core DSP.  Users claim that when using 2048 HD IR’s the HeadRush will reach its DSP limit.  FYI

Here is a link to the TS AD Web Page

Hi Steve,

I'm a bit confused. You say: "Turns out both the fractal ax8 and the line 6 Helix use the tiger shark processor buy a d devices. The tiger shark is a far superior processor, to the quad core processor used in the Helix and the ax8".
What processor is used in the Helix?

I think I'd rather have the helix then the HD, it has more IO in the back so I can run full stereo. I was attracted to the headrush because of the cost oh, I thought it might have more processing power because one of the features is that you can change patches and have the reverbs and delays spillover, because of their four core processor. Turns out both the fractal ax8 and the line 6 Helix use the tiger shark processor buy a d devices. The tiger shark is a far superior processor, to the quad core processor used in the Helix and the ax8. That is likely a testimony to the detail in both the amp models and the effects and Helix and the ax8. I haven't had a chance to sit down and listen to them in a live setting, only what I've heard on YouTube. I have been doing extensive research on these boards having a hard time making up my mind, I'm thinking the Helix offers the most options and the biggest bang for the buck. But I've had so many bad experiences with line 6 products they all seem to go bad. And as you can see I don't have a lot of luck with these things.

I did download another control center and I did check the midi output and it also did not work for the expression controllers. I also opened up the unit to make sure that all the harnesses were in place, and they are. I am also assuming at this point I have a bad chip I've had it for some time, I did have this problem a while back and was questioning this very issue and never got an answer. I just assumed that's the way it was supposed to work. I will have to order a new chip. There is also a possibility that it could be the unit. I did go into the global settings and changed it back from stomp mode to regular FBC mode and it still did not work. Thanks for your support on this.

Yes, the pedal movement should be visible in the monitor, as in the attached screenshot (SLOW movement of the pedal – the display looks weird if you move it fast, but that in itself would indicate that it’s working.

If what you’ve got in the FCB matches the other screenshot, Preset 100 is actually Stomp 5. UNO takes presets 96-100 and uses that memory space for the Stomps.

If there’s nothing coming out of the FCB when moving the exp pedal, maybe you do have a problem. If it was me I’d double check/confirm that by using MIDIOX (a free dedicated MIDI utility program – screenshot attached) to be sure that it’s not a problem with ControlCenter. Maybe you got a bad chip?

RE: the Melo MIDI Commander... I wouldn't, if I were you.  They obviously spent a lot of money on the video for the Melo MIDI Commander, but the narrator....  He speaks almost flawless English, accent-wise, but still says 'meeeedee', makes several grammatical errors, and then there's 'paraments'.  Pretty sure there's no such word.  Look, I'm not knocking the narrator, he obviously did his best and read what he was given, but with the amount of money they spent on the graphic effects, they could have had a real English speaker go over it for basic grammar.

And then there are the reviews.  "Works well, now."  "Suddenly started working."  "Not customizable enough.." "Not what it is cracked up to be" ...and several that mention bad or non-existent customer support.  I'm guessing that this is a niche product intended for a limited set of compatible amps (and probably fine for that), and they just added in some customization to attract a wider audience.  The FCB1010, while it has it's issues, is a Twenty Year Old Design - yep, it was first released in the 1990's, it's fully Standard MIDI and compatible with just about everything.  And it's still one of the best foot controllers you can get - certainly the best for under $200 US. (IMO, YMMV  :-) )

On a side note you mentioned the headrush gigboard, how is that compared to let's say the line 6 helix, or the ax8 by fractal audio?

V1.0.4 is the latest.

Did you see the screen shot I sent, It has all that info in it.  I did upload the config via sysex into the UNO Editor, I them pressed the Preset 100 (in the UI) and you can see it shows up in the “MIDI Output for Preset 100” with the correct CC# 115 and value 0 – 127, when I move the Pedal in the Editor (UI)  you see the output under “Midi Output for EXP Pedal A” and B respectively.  When I enable the “MIDI IN Monitor”  and press the Preset 100 on the physical FBC board I can see the toggling of the switch in the MIDI in Monitor but when I move the EXP Pedals (which are both enabled with red LED light on)  I do not see any activity in the MIDI IN Monitor from the either EXP Pedal which I would expect to see, so I just want to know if this is supposed to show up or not in the MIDI IN Monitor? If the CC messages from the pedal are never leaving the board that would explain why it cannot interact with the BIAS FX software.

Also I have version 1.0.4 is this the latest version?

Not sure I understand. Are you rocking the exp pedal on the UI or the FCB itself? Have you DL'd the configuration to the FCB and pressed a button to activate the pedals? If you DL the configuration to the FCB and activated the exp pedals by pressing a button, then up load the FCB contents back to the editor (so you know they're identical), the left monitor box should show the same signals when using the UI pedal as the right monitor box shows when using the FCB pedal. Don't forget to click the little icon on the right box!

The boss GT 1000 has some interesting features the adaptive dynamic concept is attractive if it actually works, could just be a fancy acronym and not actually any better than the helix or the ax8. So much work has to go into all of this takes up a lot of my time. Thanks for your input.

EJ SHELDON

Some like the sounds of the Headrush, some prefer the HX Stomp. The HX Stomp is smaller and cheaper and VERY different from the Gigboard in too many ways to get into here, and for another $99 you get the Helix Native VST, which sounds EXACTLY like the HX Stomp which sounds EXACTLY like the full sized Helix Floor. I have all three. Also, Line6’s support is peerless and, although Gigboard users report that Inmusic (Headrush/Alto parent company) support has improved, my experience with them was less than satisfactory. I have a Headrush FRFR112 speaker which sounds EXCELLENT with modelers, and for $300 is a steal.

If you go onto The Gear Page Digital Modeling section, both Line6 Helix and Headrush have THOUSANDS of posts about their products, along with the usual internet bickering over which one sounds best. Who knows, you may end up with a BOSS GT1000! (I don’t have one of those)

Or am I misunderstanding (again!)?

On a side note you mentioned the headrush gigboard, how is that compared to let's say the line 6 helix, or the ax8 by fractal audio?

V1.0.4 is the latest.

Before you try a new chip, here’s another possibility…..it could be, since neither pedal is working, that when the chip was installed, the ribbon connector for the exp pedals got disconnected. Open it up and have a look! That would be an easy solution.

You’ve (we’ve) been working on this all day, you must be about to pull your hair out!

One question I do have is that when I had the FBC connected to the Edit software I was able to simulate EXP Pedal movement in the Editor, but when I started the MIDI monitor I did not see any activity coming from the EXP controller when I rock the pedal,  Is this normal?

The mobile version was never upgraded to FX II as the desktop version was, so they call it “Bias FX Universal”, so it even has it’s own name.  Attached is the URL to the online manual. On the Bottom of the “General Overview page is only reference to MIDI compatibility, the show the “Live view” option for MIDI learn which my version does have, I tried mapping it several times it works to turn on and off the EXP Pedal but does not receive the CC messages from the EXP controller.
