More Stomps

markemark29

Any chance to have more stomp pedals, like all ten on a couple of
banks, or maybe just five on top but per bank. For example in the roms
current state you have five stomps in my case sending just note on to
guitar rig. I'd like to then go to bank two and the stomps have
different note assignments and state and its remembered per bank. Bank
one couple of stomps to turn on and off effects in guitar rig, bank
two couple of stomps to toggle loops in live. Just an idea since I
know it was a memory thing for new features, I'd be willing to dump a
couple more program changes and cc numbers, all I need is note on.

Hey!

Welcome. You are the first poster here.

Ossandust has stated a few times in posts (at the original group),
and also within his "known issues" document in the files section
that he is pretty much finished with this UnO project. If any major
bugs or "show stoppers" were to be discovered with his firmware, he
would look into it. But, as for new features, it is unlikely he'll
continue.

Respectfully,

Hey Mike

Any way Ossandust could lead us in the right direction for editing
and creating these bins?
Then maybe we could get some more custom versions out there.

It sounds to me like you SHOULDN'T be using stomps at all. Depending
on how many total presets you need, you could assign all of
the "stomp" activity within the 10X10 banks. The other thing you
could do is use the 5 stomps as is and some of the remaining 19X5
as "stomp like" presets.

Well "markemark",
as you mentioned yourself, available memory is and will always be an
issue for the fcb1010 - because of that, I guess different users would
like to have different firmware implementations to fit the limited
hardware into his/her own needs.
I'm not sure if alot of different custom fcb1010 versions would be the
best idea. That's why I'm rather considering an external hardware
extension, which would solve this memory issue, and at the same time
add the necessary flexibility for personal customization. I'll let you
know more as soon as I have more...

So don't stop sending feature requests, they might make it in an
"fcb2020" design one day.

Chris,
Yes I could send note on's from every pedal in ten banks(100)
that's true. But with the uno eprom and the added stomp box feature
the pedals light reaction and state is the real new feature for me.
For example you can tap a stomp and it only lights as the pedal is
held great for tap tempo or triggering one shot loops, then you can
program stomps to toggle there light so there on or off, multiple
pedals lights stay active, great for turning on and off effects or
toggling samples that loop. What it comes done to is if you only use
presets and you look down at your fcb you see one light on the last
pedal you taped, this simply won't do when controling software. I'd
like to look down and see pedal 1,2,and 3 lit(my distortion, chorus,
delay are on), then go up to bank 2 and pedals 1,2,3,4 are lit, I
have say 4 loops that are looping and so on for all banks. It's all
about knowing the status of the pedal(light). Plus I love that you
can NOT toggle the light which like I mentioned in the beginning is
great for tap features or even something you might change on screen
with your mouse(think about it)you have a pedal set to arm a track
in your seq. then unarm that track with the mouse, fcb pedal still
lit, not good. This does not happen if you set the presets as stomps
and set them accordingly (monetary, or toggle). I just want more
DAMn't. Oviously this has no appeal for people using program changes
and most people control hardware that is pretty much preset.
I'm rambling.... thanks

Ossandust,

Hello, outstanding work, I would have not purchased the fcb if not
for your upgrade a week after I got it. Could I pick your brain as
to how far we could go with stomp feature in its current state? I
know we lost one program change for the stomp feature, I use only
note on's. (Just some insite) I use guitar rig and it lets you
assign note on's to change presets and banks. Thanks O

fcb2020 yeah!!!!

Well,
internal flash memory is not the only restriction. I also had quite
some problems with cpu internal memory being fully allocated. ( This
is the place where I for instance store the current state of the 5
stomp boxes - you would like to have that for 100 stomp boxes... )
Moreover, when I was implementing this stompbox stuff I felt there is
a limit to the amount of patch work you can do on an existing design -
trying to add functionality which was not intended in the original
design is not an ideal situation. That's why I personally prefer to
start from scratch with a new design...

Could I pick your brain as to how far we could go with
stomp feature in its current state?

Mark,

"Editing the bin" file is a fairly extensive affair. You would need
to "disassemble." Find a dissembler for the Intel MCS8031 (a.k.a.
8031, 8051, etc.). You can probably find a free one to download.

This process will convert the bin file in to a text file
representing "assembly language" for the 8031. This is a fairly low
level language and you would spend lots of time digesting it. Like
I said, it's a big job. You would eventually modify this assembly
code and "assemble" it back into a binary file. The fact it took 5
or more years before someone on this big blue marble tackled it
should be an indication as to the level of effort. (I imagine some
other gents hacked this thing, but none willing to share results and
even go beyond thier individual needs.)

I tend to agree with Xavier, that is, if you want to extend the
functionality, then use the FCB to control some outboard device. If
you want to write some software, then create something for your
laptop that listens to the FCB and casts its messages into the
desired functions. I understand though, you really just want the
FCB's LEDs to function a certain way.

Mike,

Thanks for the info I figured it would be a daunting task. Sounds
like O's got some bigger and better ideas up his sleave anyway,
which I must say got me excited. If I could help out or contribute
to this project (first beta tester) I would be more than happy to.
Section for feature requests??
