Direct Select won't turn off

Len Brown

Hello everyone,

I seem to be having a problem with Direct Select.  I do not want to use this mode.  From the editor I send a sysex to the FCB with the Direct Select unchecked.  Editor confirms the file was sent.  Then I and click the receive sysex receive to view what I just sent to verify the FCB updated with what I intended.  When I do these steps,  it comes back with Direct Select box checked but all other parameters are how I sent them to the FCB.  Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks,

Len

Whenever the FCB starts acting wacky like that, do a 1+6 reset, then reload a properly configured sysex.

Thanks EJ.  Just tried a reset and that did not solve the issue.  Any other suggestions?

What does it do when you try to turn it off manually?

What version of the chip do you have? I have v1.0.2f and I was able to duplicate your problem by doing a reset without going back into globals manually and re-enabling sysex receive.

Len Brown

I the uno chip.

I just realized I missed a question. When I edit the FCB from the FCB it shows direct select to be off. I turned it on then off save, receive. direct select is on. I think Direct select is stuck in on.....

Yes, but it has a version number. Mine is 1.0.2f

When you make the connection in UNO_ControlCenter, the version number is shown on the virtual display.
What is the version number?
What happened when you tried to turn off direct select manually?

Please try this, in strict order, even if you already did it, do it one more time.
DISCONNECT THE USB CABLES.
Do a 1+6 factory reset.
TEST DIRECT SELECT. Is Direct select still WORKING?
That is, do you need to press two buttons to change presets?
IF YES, THEN
Reboot while holding the DOWN button.
Press the UP button twice to get to Global Configuration.
Is button 10 still lit?
IF YES THEN press button 10 to turn it off.
Hold the DOWN button until the display returns to 00.
TEST Direct Select. Does it still take two button presses to change presets?
If YES THEN you have a big problem, and I don't know the solution.

AGAIN, what version number is your UNO Chip?

Len Brown

I think it is 1.0.4

I got the impression that you were using the UNO_ControlCenter Editor.
If so, then the version number will be in the virtual display, right below "Preset Configuration" and "Global Configuration", to the left of the Red Bank #.

I did verify it is 1.0.4.  Actually I am using the editor from Mountain Systems version 2.99-2.  The editor reports Uno unknown version.  I also just did an initialization and FCB reset just to be sure and nothing changed.  Do I need a different editor?

Thanks,

Len

Another update.  I updated the software and it is now reading the correct chip version number....

That editor is not compatible with UNO past v1.0.2.
Get the UNO_ControlCenter Editor. It's like, $22, and worth more.
In the meantime, follow the directions I gave you for doing it manually.

Len Brown

Uno control center fixed it. So simple. Thanks EJ for the help troubleshooting.
