FCB1010 Control of Audio Files
Sean Edwards
Does anybody know of a tool or a hack to control the
playback of audio files? What I am trying to do is map a MIDI program change to an audio (.mp3, ogg, etc.) file. Launching a MIDI sequence at the same time as the audio file would even be better. I am looking for FCB1010 control of backing tracks, and if possible, MIDI program changes synchronized with the backing tracks. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yep - the *** (code name fcb2020) will do this. MIDI or mp3 (stored on
flash card). Come and see.... next year I'm afraid. --- In fcb1010_uno@..., Sean Edwards <cybersean3000@...> wrote:

The FCB PC Editor version I am testing now includes support for
Windows audio play (and some other options) based on MIDI messages sent by FCB1010 and received by PC. Ed --- In fcb1010_uno@..., "ossandust" <ossan.dust@...> wrote:

So what if the FCB is out of memory, you put the power in the PC based software where there are a whole lot more options. Maybe the FCB itself doesn't need to grow, just turbo-charge it with some host based tools. If you haven't seen Ambiloop, maybe take a look at it for some ideas on Looping and Recording options with the FCB. The two Chris's that program Ambiloop did a fantastic job on it and maybe you can glean some ideas or even use their tool with yours somehow. Ambiloop is a free stand-alone Looper app, that I use with the FCB. It has a great user configurable MIDI implementation. It blows away my Line6 EchoPro as a looper (which "ain't bad" itself) and it does sample playback, quick stores and retrieves sample sets, etc. The GUI is cool too. I'm not affiliated with it or the authors in any way, I just really like using it and was reminded of it reading this thread. I currently own an Alesis MIDI Data Disk. It takes
MIDI information like sysex files and MIDI sequences, and stores it on floppies. This information can then be accessed via MIDI control, such as a footswitch sending a MIDI program change to play a sequence and having effect changes at the right times during playback. The down side is all the MIDI equipment that has to go along for playback. Not just the amount of equipment, but the sound of it as well. A well edited backing track sounds way better than my MIDI synth modules ever could live. So I embarked on a search for a solution to synchronize both audio and MIDI playback, and have it activated with a MIDI program change. MIDI program Change 1 would start an mp3 file and MIDI file, and the MIDI playback would change guitar and vocal effects during the audio file playback. It seems simple, but it just is not out there. Digitech GNX 4 came across my path, but as cool as it is, did not fully meet my requirements. Opting for versatility, I chose the FCB1010 and the V-Amp Pro. Since I do not have oodles of cash, I have to rely on Linux for audio and music software, and very old hardware to run it. I came across a very powerful command line Linux utility called ecasound. I believe a solution is there, if I can figure out how to read MIDI program changes with a shell script, and associate those changes with file names or menu options. Gleaning from the MAME project, it is possible to hack a computer keyboard into a foot controller. Tapping switches for 1 and Enter would definitely launch song 1 from a menu. That would be closer to what I am seeking, but 'not exactly'. This solution could provide the desired control of synchronized file playback, but it is a second pedal board to manage, when one (especially the FCB1010) should be enough. If anybody knows how to read MIDI program change with bash script, that info would be most helpful. http://eca.cx/ecasound/ Thanks for starting some code work on this! -=cybersean=- --- tekrytor <tekrytor@...> wrote: Now you're talkin' Ed!
