Question about Uno Chip ( Newby)

Marco1967

Hello,

I'm Marco Hermans from Holland and I have a few questions about the Uno chip. I've recently purchased a brand new Behringer FCB1010. I hope it will arrived by the end of the week. I want to use it to control Amplitube 4/Bias FX and if possible other VST plug-ins in my DAW (Reaper). I want to be able to use the FCB1010 in stompbox mode . I will use a couple of presets ( Clean-Crunch-Lead-Heavy Lead ) and within the presets I want to be able to switch several stompboxes and use the pedals as a Wah and a Volume. In my opinion the Uno chip 1.0.4 can do these actions. Or is it better to go with the Uno2 which has an editor included? Which editor do you prefer?  When I use Amplitube for instance in Reaper, do I have to create a separate midi track for being able to control stompboxes/pedals? Thanks in advance.

Have you any experience at writing program code? Want to learn?
If the answer is NO, do not get the UNO2, get the UNO 1.0.4 and the UNO_ControlCenter Editor.
Attached is a sysex that will do everything you need for AT4 or 5 except control the Looper.
The AT Looper kinda sucks anyway.

I am also a Dutchy and agree to what EJ Sheldon says he is the expert in here and I use his template for s-gear. Bought a FCB1010 secondhanded and use the UNO 2 chip. The responsiveness is now much better. I am a Reaper and last few years mostly Ableton user. I love the possibilities with the UNO2 but it depends what you need. I use it mainly for s-gear. Some switches can have double functions like mute guitar and unmute mic. So I can switch between singing and guitar playing.

Hello eg62,

Thanks for the answer. I just ordered the 1.0.4 version as a start because I'm certainly no expert at programming. I use Amplitube/Sgear/Bias FX/Bias amp/TH3 and a bunch of other VST plug-ins in Reaper. Additional functions as start/stop recording/mute guitar/unmute mic are welcome but nobody in this word want to hear me sing ..... so I think that function will not be used :-).

Its more like doing more than 1 function at the same time, but in Reaper that's already possible. Have fun Marco.. I have biasfx2 also and tried the other ones as well and Mercuriall Still keep coming back to s-gear ;-) Have fun..

Thanks EJ Sheldon.

I really appreciate this! I just ordered the UNO 1.0.4 chip. I think that will be sufficient for me to start. I've  asked if there is some kind of a package deal for the chip and controller in a separate email..I never use the looper in AT4. The stand-alone version is something I never use . I use AT4 always in conjunction with reaper as a VST plugin. I want to be able to switch presets en within the presets to engage stompboxes/Expresion pedals. If it's possible to control for instance start/stop recording I will use that also.

Your old editor will NOT work with UNO v1.0.4. Unless you get the ControlCenter Editor, you can't really use your UNO chip to it's maximum effect.
You can't even load the sysex that I've provided.

Once I have the UnO chip, I can use ControlCenter?

You can use ControlCenter with the stock chip and any version of UNO except UNO2.
Get ControlCenter now and while you're waiting for the UNO chip you can be learning how to use it.

Not only will it work with the stock chip, but you can load and analyze the sysex I provided, and experiment with what you can do with the UNO chip when it arrives. Having the UNO chip is not required to use ControlCenter in UNO mode, you just can't send UNO configurations to the FCB.

Thanks!
attempting to use Control Center now, this light is blinking, but i can't find indication of what it means online, do you know what it is?

thank you so much for all your help.

IIRC, it has something to do with how the Banks were numbered - Banks 1-10 appear as 00-09, Banks 11-19 are 10-18. Something like that
Anyhow it's not a problem. In UNO Stompbox mode, when you open the "Spreadsheet" view, it should look something like this. (attached)

It's a bit strange. I ordered the 1.0.4 on the official website and sent the guy an email with questions on Monday. He doesn't respond. I only got a confirmation from Paypal that I've paid...Lets wait and see.  S-gear sounds great straight out of the box. The rest needs tweaking but gets you in the same ballpark.

I can't speak for him, but if it were me, I'd be wondering why I should give you something for free that everybody else pays for, how that would look to everybody who already paid for it, whether doing so would imply a moral or ethical requirement to give away the PRODUCT for free in the future and should refunds be provided for all who purchased it in the past.

Is 24 Euros/$27 really going to break the bank? I've been using ControlCenter for many years, and I can tell you that, compared to manual programming (Behringer never provided a functional Editor), it's ABSOLUTELY a deal!

Hi Marco,
if my emails are not in your spam folder, they are being blocked by your email provider.
The chip you ordered yesterday night has been shipped this morning.
regards,
Xavier

Hi dudes,

Some weeks ago I was struggling to use the Behringer device and I was spending hours and hours (as EJ SHELDON when trying to help me). I followed his advice and bought the official editor: since them, I never visit this forum. I just play, and play, and play. True story! :)

Marco1967

Hello Ossandust,

Thanks for this answer. The shipping email was indeed in my spam box, but I sent a separate email with a few questions to info@.... Maybe you didn't read it yet. Thanks for shipping. I'm looking forward to experiment with your chip. I will purchase the software too . Regards Marco

Hi Marco, I did reply to your email but in any case you are better served here on this forum, which has very knowledgeable Amplitube/Reaper/.... users

Marco1967

Hi Ossandust, Thanks in advance. Strange I can't find your answer but you're right , this forum is full of experience users. In the end we all wanna play the guitar and in my case as little as possible programming a controller...I'm glad you serve the musicians with different solutions for different applications with a lot of manuals and such. Tommorow I'll get the FCB1010 and buy your software . I can't wait to play and change sounds without touching that mouse everytime. I'll hope it will work with my Motu M4 interface with midi in/out.

Hi EJ Sheldon,

You're absolutely right. 24 Euro's for a piece of software is a great deal . I've seen youtube video's about manually programming the controller.... After looking 2 minutes into the video the steam was coming out of my ears.... If there wasn't a decent third party solution I didn't buy the FCB1010.
